About the Book

Learn why Nick Roberts wrote Cooking for the can't be @rsed, a realistic cookbook for tired, busy, budget-conscious and lazy cooks.

This is NOT a normal cookbook.

If you were hoping for glossy photos, aspirational plating, or recipes you’ll lovingly bookmark, stop now and put the book back.

Cooking for the can’t be @rsed is for people who are tired, busy, fed up, lazy (no shame), budget-conscious, seriously hangry, and those who just… can’t be @rsed.

Why This Book Exists

You want to eat well, maybe even healthier, but you don’t want to spend hours peeling, chopping, or googling a recipe only to discover it’s all been for nothing, and you should’ve just stuck with Monday’s regular chicken nuggets and chips in the air fryer.

This book doesn’t expect you to love cooking. It doesn’t expect you to find joy in chopping. It doesn’t care if you think ‘mise en place’ sounds like a medical condition.

It just wants you to eat something vaguely decent without turning it into a whole big thing.

Who It’s For

  • The tired — after a long day when the last thing you want is a cooking project
  • The busy — who need food fast but still want it to be decent
  • The budgeters — who know good food doesn’t need to cost a fortune
  • The genuinely lazy — who embrace it and want recipes that match
  • Anyone in a campervan, boat, tiny flat, student digs, or Airbnb — if your kitchen is more of a suggestion than a room, this book is for you

What Makes It Different

Every recipe comes with an effort rating. The recipes are split into two camps:

  • Can’t Be @rsed (recipes 1-25) — for the lazy legends
  • Can Be Slightly @rsed (recipes 26-50) — for when you’ve scraped together motivation

Each recipe includes:

  • Effort level (the only metric that really matters)
  • Short intro (why this recipe deserves to exist)
  • What you need (stuff list)
  • What to do (the absolute minimum required)
  • Can’t Be @rsed Tip (shortcuts encouraged)
  • Ultra-Lazy Version (for when even that feels ambitious)
  • Nutrition rundown (so you can reassure yourself you’re being vaguely sensible)
